Our Vision A Good Food Box for all Urban First Nations People, despite their income levels, as well as their living situations. Our Mission To provide the opportunity and support for Aboriginal people living in Vancouver to improve our capacity and create community by collectively purchasing fruits and vegetables from local farms.UAFEP will assist the GFB members in learning how to prepare the fruits and veggies that they receive in the Good Food Box. Recipes are always included in the GFB delivery, as well as a newsletter to keep people informed about any concerns regarding produce, as well as to share any news from the local, provincial, and national Aboriginal/Indigenous Food Security networks. There is an opportunity for learning through hands-on methods, how to prepare and cook food from this program. We will be organizing Community Kitchens throughout the city. We assist with hosting cultural workshops and events celebrating Aboriginal traditions around food, the harvest and the seasons. We work in Partnership with other programs that exist through Vancouver Native Health Society, including the Urban Aboriginal Community Kitchen Garden Project, ADAPT Program: Aboriginal Diabetes Awareness, Prevention and Training. We are starting with 24 Good Food Boxes, this summer, and by December we are hoping that there will be a total of 96 boxes being delivered into the hands of Urban Aboriginal People. |
